SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – An estimated 4.7 million people will be on California’s roads for Independence Day travel in 2013, a 0.7% decline from 2012 Fourth of July holiday travel figures.

“Those are projected numbers,” pointed out California State Automobile Association (AAA) spokeswoman Cynthia Harris. “We are going to see a lot traffic on the roads starting from next Wednesday when officially the Fourth of July weekend commences, most people take off by midday and start driving to their destination if they are planning to drive out of town.”

“Last year, Fourth of July fell on a Wednesday so therefore that made it into a weeklong holiday and we had the highest travel numbers ever within one decade last Fourth of July,” she added.

AAA defines holiday travel as any trip 50 miles or more from home.
